When shall it rain?

When will it rain?
The earth has dried, cracked and ugly
This destructive wind sweeps across the land
Uprooting houses as devils whisper in it words of fury
Across the rugged terrain a boy herds, animals scavenging for grass

He is lost in thoughts
Still oblivious of my presence
Might he be thinking of all they’ve lost?
Since natures turn of vengeance

But he’s just a boy, trying to carve his path
Paying for debts of his fathers
Fathers who beckoned nature’s wrath
When they robbed it of its treasured daughters

When its daughters were alive, life was better
It rained and every lawn was green
The earth was rich, ripened fruits they ate together
The earth was generous, not this mean

His fathers cut trees, summoned drought
And then escaped it, left for their graves
Then Comfort escaped and so did smile find its way out
And now he is the one to labor, for tomorrow’s sake
